Report: European giants target Rangers star who manager ‘dreams’ of signing to replace key player
Portuguese giants FC Porto are reportedly interested in a transfer for Rangers attacker Alfredo Morelos to replace Moussa Marega.
According to A Bola, the Colombian international is one of a handful of strikers Porto are interested in this summer. However, the report states that manager Sergio Conceicao has ‘old dreams’ of bringing Morelos to Portugal.
As per the report, though, the big problem for Porto when it comes to Morelos is the price tag, with Rangers reportedly valuing the striker at €20m (£17m). As reported by Eco News, the Portuguese club suffered a record financial loss during the 2019/20 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Rangers hold all the power
Normally when a big European club is keen on a player from Scotland, it becomes a matter of ‘when’ the player will move rather than ‘if’. However, in this situation, Rangers hold all of the power when it comes to Morelos’ future.
The Colombian international is off the back of yet another sensational season for the Gers. And with UEFA Champions League football to be played for in the next two months, there isn’t much reason for Morelos to leave Rangers for a club that are in a poor financial state.
Indeed, unless Rangers fail to qualify for the Champions League group stages, there is a more than likely chance that Morelos will stay with the club this summer.
Morelos transfer is unlikely this summer
The future of Morelos seems to be a major talking point for Rangers fans every transfer window.
Yet this summer, there seems to be an aura of calm around supporters. Even when the attacker is a target for a team who will be competing in the Champions League next season.
Steven Gerrard is a massive fan of the attacker and Morelos remains a firm fan favourite with the Ibrox faithful. And with Champions League football on the cards for next season, the Colombian looks certain to remain with the club for this window.
