Report: 'Tremendous' Tottenham player not a part of Conte's plans for next season
Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil arrived at N17 to much fanfare last summer.
However, he failed to win a regular place in the Spurs starting XI during his first half-season at the club.
In addition, Nuno Espirito Santo – the manager who signed him – was replaced by Antonio Conte.
Gil ended up joining Valencia on loan, where he became a fan favourite.
Indeed, plenty of fans were hoping they could land the Tottenham talent for next season.
However, Gil recently confirmed on Instagram that he’d be returning to Spurs this summer.
Now, if a new report is to be believed, the 21-year-old could be away from Tottenham next term too.
However, the Spanish club’s initial response from Tottenham has been ‘negative’.
Valencia chief Anil Murthy reportedly travelled to London a few days ago to meet with Spurs about a move.
Tottenham apparently told him in no uncertain terms that they don’t want to loan Gil out to them again.
Spurs reportedly don’t want to release the Spaniard at the beginning of the transfer window.
And if they do send him out on loan, they want him to join a team in the Europa League or Champions League.
Marca also claimed that Gil is not a part of Conte’s plans, but Tottenham don’t want him to ‘depreciate in value’.
Will Conte offload ‘tremendous’ talent?
Gil earned plenty of praise last season, from both Spurs and Valencia perspectives.
Tottenham legend Graham Roberts labelled him a “little superstar” after one Tottenham display.
And Valencia coach Jose Bordalas deemed Gil “tremendous” and said he had adapted “phenomenally well”.
It remains to be seen what Conte has in store for the youngster on a long-term basis.
And perhaps, if Gil impressed the Tottenham coaches in pre-season, he might even get a shot at fighting for a squad place.
But if the Marca report is accurate, it doesn’t look good for Gil at Spurs regarding next season at least.
