Tottenham are reportedly interested in a move for West Ham defender Issa Diop.

According to Sky Sports, Spurs are keen on a potential swoop for the Hammers centre-back.

The report explains that Premier League rivals West Ham don’t want to sell their French enforcer and value him at over £50million.

It is understood that he’s viewed as a long-term successor to Belgian pair Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

Diop, who earns £67,000-a-week (Spotrac), is a no-nonsense defender that has impressed since his move to the London Stadium in 2018 to join West Ham.

He’s a highly-rated centre-back that is strong in the air and a physical presence, but can play out from the back comfortably too.

TBR’s View:

Diop is a brilliant target for Spurs to pursue, but it looks like it would take a mammoth fee to prize him away from London rivals West Ham.

He’s a quality young centre-back that would improve under Jose Mourinho and he looks destined for bigger things, but he’s still under contract at the London Stadium until 2023.

Spurs do have Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth as two promising young centre-backs at the club, who could be natural replacements for Vertonghen and Alderweireld.
