Report: Tottenham want USA international Ethan Horvath
Belgian website Voetbal24 report – as per Tribal Football – that Tottenham want to sign United States hero Ethan Horvath. The goalkeeper has written himself into the history books with the USMNT, after his penalty save saw the USA win the first ever CONCACAF Nations League. Now, Spurs are keen.
Horvath, 26, stood between the sticks in a crazy match that eventually saw America beat Mexico 3-2. With extra-time completed, Mexico were awarded a penalty in the 124th minute of the match – to level the game and take it into a penalty shootout. But Horvath denied Mexico’s Andres Guardado.
It sparked mass celebration, and now, it appears Horvath wants more. The report claims that Horvath is looking to leave Club Brugge this summer and does not want to sign a new deal. His contract ends in a fortnight and will be available on a free. Tottenham are ready to profit.
Is Horvath good enough for Tottenham?
Horvath, it can be safely said, has blossomed late. Having broke through at Molde and keeping 19 clean sheets in 51 games, Horvath joined Brugge in 2017. But after four years, he has only played 64 times in all competitions. Last season, he managed only four outings as Simon Mignolet’s understudy.
He was some way below Hugo Lloris. It would also be argued that Joe Hart is a better option. But if Spurs are looking to replace Paulo Gazzaniga with a third-choice goalkeeper on a free, then Horvath is ideal.
