Report: Tottenham want Troy Parrott used as striker this season
Tottenham Hotspur want Troy Parrott used as a number nine this season with Sunderland amongst the clubs keen on signing the Republic of Ireland international, according to a report from I News.
The Black Cats have made a bid to sign the 20-year-old on loan for the coming campaign. And a move to the Stadium of Light would arguably represent a great step for the forward.
Alex Neil’s men are preparing for life back in the Championship. So that may be ideal for Parrott following his encouraging spell with MK Dons in League One last season. He was described as ‘brilliant‘ at one stage.
It really was a spell that seemed to get Parrott’s development back on track. Interestingly, Tottenham do not want him used in the same way during the coming season.
According to I News, Parrott was predominantly used as a number 10 last year. Spurs however, want the academy graduate given a chance as a number nine.
Tottenham plan for Troy Parrott an encouraging sign for his future
Before the second-half of last season, it did appear that Parrott may have missed his chance to push towards the Spurs first-team.
All of the buzz was centred around Dane Scarlett as Parrott toiled with the likes of Millwall and Ipswich.
In truth, he will be under no illusions that he still has an enormous amount of work to do to force his way into the fold at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
But the signs are certainly more encouraging. It must also be a positive that Spurs are asking for Parrott to be used in a certain way.
They may not have had such demands if they had written Parrott off.
It is a massive season for Parrott. But he knows what can happen for strikers at Tottenham after a number of loan spells in the divisions below.
