Report: Tottenham want to sign 'complete' £53m right-back likened to Maicon
Tottenham Hotspur finally have the chance to bolster their ranks as the January transfer window prepares to spring open.
It’s no secret that Spurs could do with bringing in a new right wing-back. It has been a problem area for a while now.
Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal have done well in spells, but Antonio Conte will surely want an improvement on both.
Football.london’s Alasdair Gold has reported that Tottenham are prioritising a new right wing-back alongside an attacking reinforcement.
Monaco prodigy Vanderson is said to be one of the full-back targets on the radar of Fabio Paratici.
In September, Spanish outlet Sport claimed the 21-year-old boasts a €60million (£53million) price tag.
Barcelona are also believed to be keeping tabs on the exciting Brazilian, as per the above report.
Tottenham target Vanderson – factfile
Vanderson joined Monaco in January from Brazilian outfit Gremio for a reported £9million.
He has registered 45 competitive appearances for the principality outfit, with two goals and five assists under his belt.
Back in April, the Ligue 1 website named Vanderson as one of the division’s rising stars, writing a feature article on the ‘scintillating’ talent.
‘Blessed with excellent technique, Vanderson’s speed and intelligence mean he can slot in at right-back, right wing or play in a more familiar midfield role,’ they wrote.
Meanwhile, Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig has described Vanderson as a ‘complete full-back’ similar in style to Maicon.
Great talent but not what Spurs need right now – TBR View
Vanderson is a top talent who would surely shine at Tottenham.
However, Conte seems to be looking for an experienced player who can instantly slot into the starting XI.
Spurs already have a top prospect at RWB in Djed Spence, and he’s barely getting a look-in.
Vanderson is still young and has relatively little experience at the highest level, not to mention no Premier League experience.
With that in mind, he doesn’t seem to be what Tottenham are looking for right now. Spurs need someone who can hit the ground running.
