Report: Tottenham want Roma midfielder Ebrima Darboe

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the teams showing plenty of interest in Ebrima Darboe, with Roma looking to agree a new contract with the midfielder, according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb.

The 20-year-old has been a peripheral figure for the Giallorossi so far this season. He has only featured in one Serie A game for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Nevertheless, Roma clearly see the Gambia international as one for the future. According to Tuttomercatoweb, talks over a new contract were held over the summer.

Darboe’s current terms in the Italian capital run until 2023.

But their hopes of agreeing an extension with Darboe have probably not been helped by the interest that he is now attracting.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Tottenham are one of the English sides keen on Darboe. It is claimed that Fulham are another of his admirers.

Darboe an exciting target for Tottenham as contract uncertainty rumbles on

He is an extremely talented defensive midfielder. The youngster reads the game incredibly well, and shows impressive discipline while defending.

But he also likes to be on the ball, and makes good decisions regarding whether to play a simple pass or attempt something a little more ambitious.

Paulo Fonseca lauded his bravery and quality towards the end of last season.

“It’s not easy to find a kid of that age with that courage, that aggression, that composure. Roma has a player for the future in him. We are all seeing what he is capable of,” he told the club’s official website.

It would be an exciting piece of business if Tottenham could bring him to North London in a future window.

The uncertainty over his contract situation means a resolution over his future may not be too far away – whether that means staying at Roma, or moving elsewhere.
