Report: Tottenham want 'incredible' £15m PL star Newcastle have eye on
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Todd Cantwell, with The Sun reporting that the likes of Newcastle and Leeds also want the attacking midfielder.
Cantwell has endured a torrid season with Norwich City. He fell out of favour under Daniel Farke. And the appointment of Dean Smith appears to have done little for his fortunes.
With that, the Canaries are prepared to sell the 23-year-old. The Sun claims that he has an asking price of around £15 million, despite his struggles.
Interestingly, there is no shortage of admirers. The Sun claims Spurs are monitoring Cantwell. But they are battling teams as Leeds, Newcastle and Jose Mourinho’s Roma for his signature. Leicester City are also in the running.
The Sun notes his contract expires in the summer. However, Norwich have the option to extend his terms by 12 months. And they plan to should no side meet their demands.
Signing Todd Cantwell would seem an underwhelming move from Tottenham
There was a time when Cantwell seemed to be one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League. And Norwich arguably did well to ensure that he stayed when they were previously relegated. Dean Ashton claimed he was an ‘incredible‘ player last year.
Now however, Cantwell’s form is a major concern. He has not scored or provided an assist this term. And, unlike fellow Tottenham target Adama Traore, he does not look like ending that wait for a goal or assist anytime soon.
Antonio Conte has a number of players in those areas of the pitch who are struggling to silence their critics. The likes of Dele Alli and Steven Bergwijn have a point to prove.
It is hard to argue that Cantwell would be an upgrade on what they already have. And with that, some will surely have their concerns if Tottenham do indeed make a move for the Norwich man.
