Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a move for Inter Milan striker Gabriel Barbosa, according to a report from the Sunday People (12/1; page 51).
The Sunday People reports that Spurs are set to be without Harry Kane until April. The striker has undergone surgery and will miss the majority of the remaining months of the campaign.
And it appears that Jose Mourinho is keen to land a replacement for Kane while the January transfer window is open.
The Sunday People (12/1; page 51) reports that Spurs are interested in Barbosa. The Brazil international is said to be available for around £25 million after an inspired loan spell with Flamengo.
The 23-year-old scored 25 goals in 29 games during his time in Brazil.
TBR View – Barbosa move looks risky, but could it prove inspired?
Gabigol has been outstanding while he has been in Brazil. But he is yet to prove that he can be a success in Europe. He has scored one goal in 10 league appearances during his time at Inter and Benfica.
But Spurs definitely need a striker. And £25 million is not a huge outlay for a club of their stature. So perhaps it will be worth the risk.
He is still young and improving. So if Jose Mourinho can get the forward to replicate anything like his form from during his time from Flamengo, it could be an inspired move from Tottenham.
