According to a report from the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur are one of the teams interested in signing Ben Chilwell, but Leicester City are hoping to tie the left-back down to a new contract.
Chilwell has established himself as one of the most impressive full-backs in the league. He looks to now be Gareth Southgate’s first choice in his position for England, and appears to be winning plenty of admirers.
The Daily Star reports that Spurs want the 22-year-old, but Manchester United and Chelsea are also keen. Leicester meanwhile, want to agree a new deal with the former Huddersfield Town loanee.
The Star suggests that Chilwell – whose current deal is set to run until 2024 – is about to be offered terms worth £100,000-a-week. The report notes that his current valuation is already £50 million, but is expected to rise further.
TBR View- Fantastic target for Spurs
It is no surprise to see Tottenham reportedly target Chilwell. The full-back positions have been so important to the side’s success under Mauricio Pochettino.
Unfortunately, those areas of the pitch have become a weakness for Spurs this season, it seems. Danny Rose was outstanding last term, but has arguably been nowhere near as good so far this year.
Signing Chilwell would arguably be one of the best ways to address the task of replacing Rose. On current form, he looks good enough to immediately become Pochettino’s first-choice. And it looks a safe bet to predict that he is only going to get better in the coming years.
