Report: Tottenham waiting on crunch talks over Kim Min-Jae's future
Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring talks between South Korea centre-back Kim Min-Jae and his current club Beijing Sinobo Guoan, amid reports the 23-year-old could leave the club.
The £13.5 million-rated defender is being earmarked as a potential defensive recruit for Tottenham as they look to improve their first-team squad on a minimal budget.
The Telegraph is reporting that Tottenham are now keeping tabs on the player, nicknamed monster for his 6ft 3ins height and muscular frame, amid a row between himself and his club.
That row stems from Kim’s comments regarding his current team-mates made in an interview in South Korea.
As reported by the South China Morning Post last month, Kim made comments referring to the lack of ability of two of his defensive team-mates, Chinese internationals Yu Dabao and Wang Gang.
Kim later defended his comments, suggesting they had been misrepresented, but he was heavily criticised by Chinese fans and the SCMP claims he was told to ‘apologise or leave’ the club.
Xinhua News Agency has since relayed information from Titan Sports that suggests those talks have taken place and the player is now in discussions over a move to Tottenham. The presence of his international colleague Heung-min Son is said to be ‘pivotal’ to a potential Tottenham move.
Whilst it might not be the marquee signing some Tottenham fans crave, at just £13.5 million Tottenham could have a hidden gem on their hands should Kim live up to his potential.
