Report: Tottenham unlikely to bring Marcus Edwards back, happy with sell-on clause

Football.London has cast doubt over recent reports suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur could be looking to bring Marcus Edwards back to the club.

The winger joined the Portuguese side Vitoria last summer, after failing to live up to his massive reputation as a potential future star at Tottenham.

Mauricio Pochettino once compared him to Lionel Messi in playing style, but Edwards never established himself at the club and was allowed to head to Portugal with Tottenham fans disappointed he never made the grade.

But Edwards has been in fine form with his new club, beginning rumours that Tottenham might be interested in bringing him back.

It was reported by Guimaraesdigital that Tottenham and Manchester United could both be keen on the talented attacker. Vitoria would be looking for a fee between £18 million and £22.5 million for their star talent.

However, Football.London is reporting that such a move is unlikely.

They suggest Tottenham have enough options in the wide areas and would be more likely to collect 50 percent of any sale should Edwards leave, as per a sell-on clause included in the deal that saw Edwards head to Portugal.

So Tottenham fans wanting to see Edwards finally get his Tottenham chance may be left disappointed.

But at least Tottenham could end up cashing in around £11 million if he does end up elsewhere.
