The Daily Mail have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to make a ‘shock’ swoop to sign Arsenal star Ainsley Maitland-Niles this summer, with the Gunners ready to listen to offers in the region of £20million.
Maitland-Niles, 22, has enjoyed an excellent season at Arsenal – despite playing in numerous positions. Initially used as a right-back to cover Hector Bellerin, Maitland-Niles played in midfield and then finished as a left wing-back.
It is that versatility that is said to have attracted Tottenham to the possibility of landing England Under-21 international Maitland-Niles. They are keen to bolster the right-back area, with Serge Aurier likely to join Milan.
The report claims the Gunners are ready to listen to offers worth £20million, though a move to Tottenham would be a shock given the rivalry between the two sides. Sol Campbell caused uproar when doing so in 2001.

TBR’s view – Maitland-Niles a bargain at £20m
Young, English, versatile, 100 Arsenal appearances to his name and available for just £20million – landing Maitland-Niles is a no-brainer for most Premier League teams, let alone Tottenham.
If Arsenal are truly willing to listen to offers in that region for Maitland-Niles, then they are surely making a mistake. He is homegrown and offers options in numerous positions, he is the ideal squad player to have.
But Spurs are right to put aside rivalry if it means they can sign Maitland-Niles for the figure of £20million.
