Tottenham are expected to return with a fresh bid for Inter Milan defender, Milan Skriniar, this week, as Jose Mourinho presses ahead with further squad improvements.
Skriniar has emerged as a targer for Spurs in recent weeks as the club looks to bring in defensive reinforcements.
However, the two clubs are said to be wide apart in initial negotiations in terms of the transfer fee. The Guardian claims Spurs have offered around £27m for the Slovakian, with Inter said to be holding out for double that amount.
But according to 90Min, Spurs are still hopeful of a deal. Their report claims a ‘fresh, formal bid’ is set to go in from Tottenham this week, as the club looks to tempt Inter into a sale.
Skriniar has been excpetional for Inter for a number of seasons now. Jose Mourinho has been using Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier as his central defenders this term but is clearly looking for more.
Inter may be prepared to drop the price on Skriniar, too, with reports over the weekend suggesting Antonio Conte was pushing for his board to lower their demands.
Final piece of the jigsaw? It might be – TBR View
If Spurs can land Skriniar, then it might just complete the puzzle for Mourinho this summer. He is a class act and a player of real quality in defensive areas, so would undoubtedly improve Spurs.
However, the pressure would then be on. Mourinho could not say he hasn’t had the backing from Daniel Levy. Bale, Skriniar, Hojbjerg, Doherty, would all be decent outlays from the board.
Skriniar is a class act. But if the club does land him, then Mourinho has to deliver the results and ultimately, a Champions League spot.
