Report: Tottenham to miss out on Antony; he's set for Manchester United

Tottenham are set to miss out on signing Antony, with The Sun reporting that the forward is close to sealing a £40 million move to Manchester United.

Reports claimed towards the end of last week that Spurs wanted the Ajax star. He scored 12 goals and contributed 10 assists in all competitions last season.

Of course, United appeared to have a big advantage. Erik ten Hag knows the Brazilian extremely well from his time with the Eredivisie giants. He has previously labelled him an ‘incredible‘ player.

However, Spurs also had a potential ace up their sleeve. Reports suggested that Antonio Conte’s men were prepared to offer Steven Bergwijn in negotiations. Ajax are big admirers of the Dutch forward.

And Tottenham have been one of the early pace-setters in the transfer market. They have already made a number of signings. So if anyone could snatch him from United’s grasp, it may well have been Spurs.

But, it does seem that Manchester United are closing in on a deal. The Sun is now reporting that they are close to a £40 million transfer. And officials from the club will be in Amsterdam today to get a move across the line.

Tottenham to miss out on Antony

It is a blow for Tottenham to miss out on Antony. He looks to have a fantastic future ahead. And he would be another superb forward for Conte to have in his ranks.

But Tottenham fans also have reason to not worry too much. Fabio Paratici keeps his options open right until the final moment when a signing is announced.

So Spurs will have other names on their radar should Antony indeed move to Manchester United. And the fans will hope that Paratici has something even more exciting lined up.
