The Telegraph have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in signing Southampton captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg but will wait to make an offer at the end of the global health crisis – and Everton are lurking.
The 24-year-old Southampton captain is set to enter the final 12 months of his current £50,000-a-week contract (Spotrac), as he continues to show he is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League outside the top six.
However, the report claims Tottenham will wait until after the coronavirus epidemic before making a final decision on the 33-time Denmark international. However, Everton are also interested and that could see The Toffees swoop in for Hojbjerg.
Speaking about Tottenham’s reported interest in Hojbjerg on BT Sport, Jermaine Jenas is confident that the former Bayern Munich and Schalke midfielder would be a good addition to Jose Mourinho’s side.
“I think what’s been really impressive is the way that he’s stepped up to the plate,” Jenas said, as quoted by the Express. “He seems to be a big leader within the ranks. He has that authority, he’s got that real kind of combative nature to his game.”
“I think that’s why Spurs were looking at him to see if they can prise him away in the January window.”

TBR’s view – Hojbjerg is just what Tottenham need
Spurs boast plenty of options in midfield – all of which have enormous technical ability and the creativity to dictate the tempo of play and set up attacks. Harry Winks, Gio Lo Celso, Moussa Sissoko and even, on his day, Tanguy Ndombele.
But what Spurs lack is a bit of steel. A player that is willing to put his head in where it hurts. Hojbjerg is that man, and having him alongside a more technically-gifted midfielder – such as Lo Celso – would see Spurs boast an excellent midfield.
