The Evening Standard have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are to make a ‘fresh’ bid to sign Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar this weekend, after they complete a deal for Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius on a loan-to-buy deal.
Vinicius, 25, is set to undergo a medical at Spurs on Friday after Benfica confirmed his exit on Thursday evening. It is believed a loan fee of £2.7million will be paid up front, and a permanent option in the Brazilian’s contract could be worth £38.2million.
After a deal for the striker is completed, it is expected Spurs will make a fresh move to sign Skriniar. Talks over a move for Skriniar broke down, with Inter stating they will fight to keep the Slovakian powerhouse under the guidance of Antonio Conte.
However, Spurs will make a fresh bid this weekend – with Skriniar the number one target. Other options are Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, Juventus’ Turkey international Merih Demiral and the South Korean Virgil van Dijk, Kim Min-jae.

TBR’s view – Skriniar is the last piece in the Tottenham jigsaw
Eric Dier has starred at centre-back, shining against Chelsea on Tuesday. Davinson Sanchez has been indifferent but has pace, while Toby Alderweireld is decent but is certainly past his peak. Japhet Tanganga is still learning hsi trade.
Adding a player at the peak of his powers in a powerhouse like Skriniar – that boasts speed, strength and defensive intelligence – gives Tottenham all the tools they need to break into the top four and win a trophy this season.
