Tottenham are hoping to appoint Antonio Conte as manager in the coming days but have a contingency plan already in mind in the form of Ryan Mason, should a deal for the Italian stall.
Spurs officially parted ways with Nuno Santo and his coaching team this morning after just four months together. It means the club are once again looking for a new manager, with Conte top of the list.
However, according to The Standard, Spurs do have a plan in place should a move for Conte hit the buffers. They report that former interim boss, Ryan Mason, is due to take charge of first-team matters if needs be.

It is expected Mason would be in the dugout for the game with Vitesse this week. But only if talks to bring Conte in do break down like they did in the summer.
Mason was well-liked and respected by both fans and players during his previous spell in charge. He is well liked by Daniel Levy, and will be trusted once again, if Conte is not in the building.
TBR’s View: Ryan Mason is sensible planning by Tottenham
It might send the jitters up some Spurs fans to think that Conte doesn’t arrive now, but having a back up plan is key as well. The club saw in the summer how quickly things can change, so giving Mason a briefing is definitely worthwhile.
Mason will be fine, too. If he is put in charge for a few days, he already knows what to do and how to work with these players.
