Tottenham Hotspur have received a potential boost in their efforts to sign Real Betis star Giovani Lo Celso, with the club having reportedly identified the 23-year-old’s replacement.
According to The Daily Star, the Spanish club want coveted Nice midfielder Benjamin Bourigeaud this summer.
Spurs continue to push for Argentine international Lo Celso, who is currently on Copa America duty.
The club tabled an offer of £53 million for the former Paris Saint-Germain last month (BBC Sport), which was swiftly rejected.
Lo Celso has an £88 million release clause and Betis would like as close to that figure as possible.
If the club can get Bourigeaud in though, perhaps negotiations will get easier for Spurs over Lo Celso.
This is encouraging news for Spurs, who are seemingly on the verge of signing Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon (The Sun).
If the report is to be believed, then it is a clear indication that Betis are ready to cash in on Lo Celso.
Bourigeaud, who has actually been linked to Tottenham himself recently, is an attacking midfielder who would be direct competition for Lo Celso at Betis.
The club would surely have to move Lo Celso on if they signed Bourigeaud – valued around £18 million by Rennes (The Express) – as the French ace is too talented to be sitting on the bench.
