Report: Tottenham talks to sign player progressing despite Arsenal readying £275k-a-week contract
According to The Times, Tottenham’s talks with Inter Milan to sign Lautaro Martinez are still progressing, despite strong interest from Arsenal.
What’s the story?
Well, in an article about life after Harry Kane, The Times revealed that Tottenham’s pursuit of the 23-year-old is still moving forward.
It seemed as if things might either be stalling or moving backwards, after Fabrizio Romano claimed Martinez could still sign a new contract.
However, it seems as if he could still leave the San Siro, with Tottenham’s talks inching further – albeit at a snail’s pace.
The danger is that Arsenal swoop in.
Eurosport believe the Gunners are keen to hijack Tottenham’s £60m Martinez deal, and would be willing to pay him £275,000-a-week.
Lautaro Martinez – Arsenal or Tottenham?
If we were the 28-cap Argentina international, we’d move to Tottenham.
It’s a tough choice, seeing as both north London clubs are far from where they should be and are at risk of going backwards.
However, Martinez would have his fellow countrymen Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso at Spurs, whereas Arsenal have no Argentines.
In truth, whoever lands the South American could be saving their own season.
Martinez scored 19 goals last season, and is among some of Europe’s best forwards – even at the age of 23.
His South American tenacity coupled with his tremendous ability remind us of Luis Suarez – if he plays even half as well as Suarez did for Liverpool, he’ll be a huge success.
Keep an eye on this saga, as it does seem to be progressing ever so slowly.
