Tottenham forward Harry Kane could reportedly give them a boost with a timely return from injury quicker than expected.
Jose Mourinho previously suggested (Football.London) that Spurs may not have the 26-year-old back fit again until the penultimate game of the league season against Leicester City.
The England international has been sidelined with a hamstring problem that he picked up on New Year’s Day.
But according to the Sun, Kane is now targeting a comeback for early April and may be back playing within six weeks.
It is understood that the striker could return for the North London club sooner than expected, but the report does explain they don’t want to rush him back.
Spurs have their final seven games of the Premier League season starting at the beginning of April and it would give Mourinho’s side a major lift if he is back in contention.
He’s scored 17 goals in 25 games across all competition this campaign, but has had to watch on as his team battle without him.
Spurs still have plenty on the line this season, as they are four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the league as they try to chase them down.
Meanwhile, they face Norwich City in the FA Cup fifth round and are fighting to overturn a one-goal deficit against RB Leipzig in the Champions League last-16.
TBR’s View – Can he be Mourinho saviour?
Kane’s injury would hurt any team across Europe, but it’s been made even worse by the absence of Heung-Min Son too in the past two games.
Spurs should suddenly feel a bit more optimistic about a top four finish though if they are going to have their goal machine back available for the remaining seven league fixtures, as he has so often been the difference for them in games.
They need to ensure they stay in touching distance in the league over the next month, while a strong run in the FA Cup too has to be a serious target for Mourinho as he was appointed to try win silverware.
Mourinho will in the long-term have a better opportunity of attracting top players if Spurs are in next season’s Champions League, so having Kane return before the end of the season to fire them up the league could be the perfect saviour.
