Report: Tottenham could still move for Euro 2020 boss after Gattuso debacle

Tottenham could reignite their interest in Belgium boss, Roberto Martinez, after seeing moves for Paulo Fonseca and then Gennaro Gattuso collapse.

Daniel Levy is still looking for a new manager it seems. And what a mess he and the club seem to be making of appointing a successor to Jose Mourinho.

Last night, things seemed to reach a fever pitch. The club pulled out of talks with Fonseca, despite an agreement being close. Within minutes, the club were then linked with Gennaro Gattuso, who left Fiorentina after just 22 days earlier in the day.

However, The Athletic have claimed this morning that a move for Gattuso is now off. Fan backlash, and reservations from Levy, the apparent reasons.

And that means that Spurs could once again move for former Everton boss Martinez. Tuttomercatoweb reported yesterday as all the Fonsece and Gattuso news was going off that the Spaniard remained a target.

Martinez, 47, is currently managing Belgium in the Euros. He led the Red Devils to another win yesterday, following on from their impressive and dominant opener.

Spurs had initially put Martinez on their list a few months back. We reported in April how Martinez apparently wanted a return to club football, with Tottenham a potential destination.

Now, it seems, that door is firmly back open.

Tottenham aren’t half making a mess here but Martinez would be ok

Spurs fans would probably accept any half respectable manager at the moment, given the situation.

Gattuso was not wanted for his past comments and views more than anything it seems. Controversies had surfaced, and Spurs fans made their voices heard.

At least in Martinez they’d be getting a good, honest coach who works well with modern players. His time with Belgium shows this, and it also highlights his ability to work with the very best.

Given what’s happened in the last few weeks, Spurs would probably take Martinez in a heartbeat right now.
