Report: Tottenham star Dele Alli still as quick and fit as Kyle Walker
Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli isn’t quite enjoying life under new manager Nuno Santo as he might have hoped. A number of underwhelming performances, and a quick sulk off the pitch a week or so back, have left Alli struggling again.
The former MK Dons man was once a shining light of English football. A regular in the Three Lions squad and a regular goal scorer for Spurs, Alli has seen his form drop off a cliff in recent seasons.
However, all is not lost for Alli it seems. According to a report from The Athletic, Alli is still putting up impressive numbers in terms of fitness and speed in training. In fact, The Athletic report that ‘Dele’ is still matching the levels shown by former right-back, Kyle Walker.
It is claimed that Alli’s conditioning is a key reason for Spurs and in particular, Nuno Santo, wanting to keep him around. So while the goals and assists might not be flowing, the 25-year-old could yet find himself with a big role to play.
TBR’s View: Stats are impressive, but performances matter now for Dele Alli
You can put up the best numbers going in training and in drills, but if you don’t produce when it matters, then it all becomes a bit pointless.
Dele Alli needs to get back to his best. How he does that, is down to both him and whoever is in charge at Tottenham. He is only 25, so time is still firmly on his side.
However, you do feel this is a big season for Dele. A good campaign can really ignite his career again. Sadly, though, another stinker could see him move on for a fresh start.
Matching Kyle Walker is impressive. But matching him on the field would be even better.
