Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is reportedly a target for Serie A outfit Fiorentina.

The Spurs playmaker is unlikely to stay at N17 next season after becoming surplus to requirements under Antonio Conte.

Lo Celso spent the second half of last season on loan at Villarreal, where he excelled.

However, Villarreal CEO Roig Negueroles confirmed earlier this month that his club wasn’t in a position to move for the Tottenham man permanently.

This has given other clubs the chance to try their luck in snapping up Lo Celso.

Argentine outlet TyC Sports previously reported that Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone ‘dreams’ of signing the midfielder.

Now, Italian outlets La Nazione and Tuttosport – via Sport Witness – claim Fiorentina have rekindled their interest in Lo Celso.

La Nazione claimed the Serie A side ‘had tried to realise’ a deal with Tottenham for the midfielder ‘during the January transfer market’.

And while the negotiation with Spurs simply ‘did not take off’, Lo Celso – and Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti – remain ‘suggestions’.

Similarly, Tuttosport claims the Viola’s idea of signing the Tottenham midfielder ‘remains’, now that he is ‘back from a brilliant season on loan at Villarreal’.

Tottenham signed Lo Celso on loan in the summer of 2019 before buying him outright the next year.

However, his career at Spurs has never really got going amid injury and form issues.

The suspension of English football due to covid likely played a part in the player’s struggles to settle too.

Nonetheless, even if Conte doesn’t plan to use Lo Celso, he’s a good enough player to make a name for himself elsewhere.

After all, he has done well for Argentina’s national team in recent years, and he impressed at Villarreal last term.

Indeed, Villarreal goalkeeper and fellow Argentine Geronimo Rulli gave Lo Celso some very high praise when he first joined.

Speaking to Super Deporte, Rulli said: “He gives us an option as a team.

“He improves us, and I won’t be surprising many by saying that he is one of the best players in the world.

“I know him well as a player and as a person, so I hope he does very well.”
