Sky Sports Transfer Centre have claimed (Friday, 19:01) that Tottenham Hotspur have had a six-month loan bid rejected for Shanghai Shenhua striker Odion Ighalo, with less than four hours to run in the January window.
Tottenham have failed in pursuits to land Olivier Giroud, Willian Jose and Islam Slimani, and now it seems their attentio has turned to the Chinese Super League in a bid to land Nigeria international Ighalo. He has scored 10 in 19 for his current side.
Ighalo moved to China in January 2017, after two and a half years at Premier League side Watford – where he scored 40 goals in 100 games, and laid on 11 assists. He found the back of the net 17 times in 55 Premier League outings.
Initially joining second-tier Chinese side Changchun Yatai for 20million (BBC), he then moved to Shenhua before the beginning of the 2019 CSL campaign. Now, a bid from Tottenham has been rejected, while The Sun claim Manchester United have also bid for Ighalo on deadline day.

TBR’s view – Ighalo has a much better record than many think
Given that Ighalo only completed 90 minutes in 37 of his 55 Premier League outings – a record of 17 goals and six assists is admirable in a Watford side constantly battling relegation. His form since moving to China has been strong, too.
Whether Spurs are open to making a second offer remains to be seen but if the north Londoners do end up signing Ighalo, they could have done a lot worse if his Premier League stats are to go on.
