Tottenham Hotspur are now on the verge of completing the second biggest transfer in the club’s history.
Closing in
Gianluca Di Marzio says that Tottenham are now set to close on a deal worth £47 million to sign Atalanta defender Cristian Romero.
Tottenham have apparently ‘accelerated’ talks in the last few hours, meaning that the deal is now close.
Tottenham want to pay £38 million up-front with the rest coming in add ons.
Romero will then sign a five year deal at Tottenham, which should tie down his future for the long-term, with Di Marzio saying there are no barriers in the way of the deal being completed now.
Big money
The transfer would make Romero the second most expensive player in Spurs history, with only Tanguy Ndombele costing more.
Romero won Serie A’s Defender of the Season award last term and could be a hugely important addition to their side.

Spurs struggled defensively last campaign, and have made landing a central defender one of their top priorities this summer.
Romero, at the age of 23, still has plenty of room to develop.
However, he already looks as if he could be a cut above the rest of the defenders in Tottenham’s squad, and his arrival really would prove the North London club’s ambition, with Fabio Paratici really getting to work in the transfer market now.
