French magazine France Football have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are rivalling Paris Saint-Germain and German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt for AS Monaco coach Bob Tahri.
Tahri, 40, works as Monaco’s mental preparation coach. He helps the club get in the correct mind frame for matches, which worked for the French side this season when they found themselves in the midst of a relegation battle.
Indeed, Monaco struggled under Thierry Henry and that saw them in real danger of going down. They escaped by the skin of their teeth, proving to be mentally strong in the penultimate match of the season to beat Amiens 2-0.
Tahri was previously known as a long-distance runner, winning numerous medals during a 17-year career. He represented France in the 3000m steeplechase, 5000m race and more.
Long-distance running is renowned to be challenging mentally, but it appears that Tahri has used his career as an athlete to help Monaco’s footballers. Now, his talents have not gone unnoticed.
Tottenham have been accused of being mentally weak when it comes to the crunch, and can be accused of that this season. On the face of it, Spurs had a good season. But it could have been so much better.
Spurs were in a title challenge for much of the campaign, keeping up with Manchester City and Liverpool. But a tough period saw them miss out, which also coincided with a defeat in the semi-final of the League Cup.
Last time out, they lost to Liverpool in the Champions League final. Though they reached finals and semi-finals and mounted a title challenge, when it mattered, they failed to capitalise. Spurs need a man like Tahri.
