Report: Tottenham remain interested in Malinovskyi as Marseille back away

Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in Ruslan Malinovskyi, with Calciomercato reporting that Marseille have backed away from a potential deal for the 29-year-old.

Malinovskyi has been heavily linked with Spurs for much of the last few weeks. And reports claimed that he wanted to join Antonio Conte’s side this summer.

However, it seemed that he was about to move elsewhere. He had agreed to join Marseille despite his desire to move to North London.

But it now seems that the Atalanta star’s future is far from certain. In fact, Calciomercato reports that the Ligue 1 side have backed away over the clubs’ respective valuations.

And with that, a Premier League move could be on the cards. Calciomercato reports that Spurs are still in the running. Meanwhile, Leicester and Nottingham Forest are alternative options.

But it is added that Tottenham are Malinovskyi’s preferred destination.

Tottenham remain interested in Malinovskyi

Signing Malinovskyi would be an exciting move from Tottenham. He has been labelled ‘extraordinary‘. And he boasts an extremely impressive record in Serie A, with 46 goal contributions in 103 games.

Another target, Daniel James, boasts a more underwhelming record in the top-flight. The Welshman has 22 goals contributions in 86 games.

Malinovskyi is considerably older. He turns 30 next May. But Leeds are not going to let James leave on the cheap. So the Ukrainian may represent better value as Spurs look for another player who can excite the supporters.

There is rival interest. And that may not help Tottenham’s cause.

But as the hours tick down, Fabio Paratici will need to make a decision on which target would be the best option for Tottenham.

Malinovskyi is seemingly up for grabs once again. Perhaps Spurs will be wary of missing out after being given a second chance.
