Report: Tottenham reignite interest in Celtic defender, after agent comments

Norwegian outlet Sporten have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to reignite their interest in Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer this summer, after the player’s agent confirmed he would be leaving the Scottish champions in the summer.

Ajer, 21, has become a regular and indeed a fan favourite at Celtic after breaking into the side – after first joining as a teenager in Brendan Rodgers’ first summer at the club. He has clocked up 129 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions.

The Scottish Sun have quoted Ajer’s agent Tore Pedersen as saying: “He will not extend his contract with Celtic and will leave this summer. There are several clubs who are interested, but I can’t go into their names.”

Now, Tottenham are set to reignite their interest in Ajer – after they were linked with the Norway international back in 2018. TeamTalk claimed almost two years ago that both Spurs and Dortmund wanted Ajer.

The current report claims Celtic value Ajer at £26.7million – which will see Celtic make an enormous profit on the £500,000 they paid for Ajer (Record). He has a contract at Celtic until the summer of 2022.

TBR’s view – Ajer would be a perfect signing for Tottenham

Spurs and Jose Mourinho like to use defenders that are comfortable playing in both a two-man and three-man defence, and Ajer is the perfect man for the job – given he has been used in both forms at Celtic.

At less than £30million, Daniel Levy will surely be licking his lips given he could be signing another young player for a small-ish fee. Steven Bergwijn, Jack Clarke, Ryan Sessegnon, Gedson, Gio Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele are all 23 or younger.

Levy wants players with resale value and Ajer is exactly that.
