Tottenham Hotpsur are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan veteran Diego Godin this summer and the latest report details an enormous boost for the north London club – as they can sign the South American for a bargain figure.
The Daily Mirror claimed earlier this month that Spurs were rivalling Manchester United and Valencia for 34-year-old Godin, who has a contract at Inter Milan until the summer of 2022. However, it is believed he will leave Inter this summer.
That is because the Uruguay legend has been in and out of the Inter side under Antonio Conte, remaining an unused substitute eight times in Serie A this season. Now, Spurs have received a big boost, as have other parties.
The Mirror have claimed in Wednesday’s paper edition (April 15, page 49) that Inter Milan want just £7million for Godin, a fee more than affordable even amid the global health crisis. Such a deal is likely to tempt Daniel Levy.
TBR’s view – Godin an absolute no-brainer at just £7m fee
Despite his age, Godin is a top, top player. The way the former Atletico Madrid star plays football means he can certainly go on for at least another two or three years at the top level, and that makes his transfer fee a bargain.
Tottenham need a player like Godin. Mourinho needs a leader, something which Spurs lack and bringing Godin to sort out a shaky defensive line could be the purchase of the summer – should Levy sanction a deal for the two-time Europa League winner.
