According to The Times, Tottenham are preparing a move for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres, who has a £55.4m release clause.
What’s the story?
Well, the 14-cap Spain international is a wanted man.
Spanish outlet SPORT revealed that Arsenal were also monitoring Torres this summer, but it’s Spurs who look ready to make the first move.
The Times believe the 24-year-old has also been scouted by Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Torres, as aforesaid, has a £55.4m release clause, which increased from £46.8m after he reached a certain number of caps for Spain.
Despite the release clause, The Times have stated that Tottenham hope Villarreal will accept a lower fee.
Jürgen Klopp snubbed Pau Torres

Interestingly, The Times revealed back in May that Torres was firmly on Jürgen Klopp’s radar, but the German snubbed him in favour of Ibrahima Konaté.
That isn’t to say that the Spaniard is a bad player. Konate was cheaper at £36m, and Klopp supposedly made his mind up after speaking to Ralf Rangnick.
In our view, Fabio Paratici deserves a knighthood if he can bring Torres to N17.

The left-footed defender is a classy operator, and it’s no surprise to hear that England’s finest clubs have scouted him.
If Tottenham go from Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez to Cristian Romero and Torres in one summer, it would be almost unbelievable.
Those two have the potential to be Tottenham’s centre-back pairing for the next decade, with plenty of room for improvement given their age too.
