Tottenham Hotspur are set to bid for Jarrod Bowen in January, according to The Northern Echo.

Spurs scouts have been impressed with Bowen and have convinced Jose Mourinho to push for him. This has come as a blow to Newcastle United, who were thought to be among the frontrunners.

Newcastle have held a long-term interest in the Hull City winger. However, Tottenham’s interest has damaged their hopes of signing Bowen. Newcastle will now admit defeat in this transfer pursuit and look at alternatives.

Bowen has been in top form for Hull once again this season. In 23 matches, he has scored 17 goals. This is a remarkable tally for a young winger and he is just getting better each year.

In total, the 22-year-old has scored 54 goals in 122 games for the Tigers. He is a left-footed winger who likes to drift in from the right flank and he has shown he is ready to step up to the Premier League.

Tottenham now look set to test Hull’s resolve in January.

TBR’s view

Bowen has the potential to become the next James Maddison, stepping up from the Championship and thriving in the top-flight. He is young, hungry and English so what more could Spurs or Newcastle want?

Newcastle might have blown their chance, though. The Magpies should have tried to sign Bowen last summer. They risked it and now he is attracting attention from the top clubs.
