A report from Football London claim that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp has a ‘very good chance’ of starting against Manchester City. The England Under-21 star has sparkled for Spurs during pre-season. With Nuno Espirito Santo deciding to keep him, he could start on Sunday.
Skipp, 20, joined Norwich during 2020-21 on loan after only clocking up 23 senior appearances for Tottenham beforehand. The midfielder played all-but-one of Norwich’s 46 Championship fixtures last season – helping them return to the Premier League at the first attempt.
There was speculation over whether Skipp would remain at Tottenham for the 21-22 campaign. But under Nuno, he has been first choice in midfield during pre-season. Now, Football London say Skipp has a ‘very good chance’ of starting against Manchester City, having bulked up recently.
“Skipp, who has bulked up in his year away to help him cope with regular first-team football, looks destined to play a big role in Nuno’s XI,” Alasdair Gold writes. “His form in pre-season has demonstrated that he is ready for a starting role. There’s a very good chance that he will start against Man City.”

Should Skipp start for Tottenham against Manchester City?
Well, who else do Tottenham have? It looks as if Nuno will use a 4-2-3-1 system. Two holding midfielders, with a fluid front four that swap positions. Going off pre-season and without Harry Kane – Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn either side of Dele Alli, behind Son Heung-min.
All four are fluid, much like Adama Traore, Daniel Podence, Pedro Neto and others were at Wolves. It has worked well. But in midfield, who is there to partner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg? Moussa Sissoko is plummeting down the pecking order and Fenerbahce are the latest club to be linked with him.
Harry Winks has been in and out during pre-season. Gio Lo Celso has only just returned from Copa America and Tanguy Ndombele was not even involved against Arsenal – despite not having an injury. Skipp is in form, will have confidence after pre-season – and has got to start.
