Tottenham have reportedly drawn up a long-term plan for their youngster Ryan Sessegnon, who was recently loaned out to German top-flight club Hoffenheim.

The 20-year-old left-footer has moved to the Bundesliga on a season-long loan in pursuit of more first-team action, as he’s played just 12 senior games for Spurs since he joined them last summer from Fulham.

He is a versatile player that has been used as both a left-back and a left-winger in his career so far, but a report explains the plan Spurs have for him moving forward.

According to Football London, manager Joe Mourinho has “high hopes” for the English speedster and believes he could be the long-term challenger to Sergio Reguilon at left-back.

The report explains that the North London club sanctioned a loan exit where Sessegnon would be used as a full-back or wing-back, as that’s where they see his long-term future.

TBR’s View:

A loan move for Sessegnon looked like a no-brainer this season given his lack of minutes and it’s great news for him that Spurs have planned out how they see him progressing moving forward.

The North London club now have Reguilon as their first-choice left-back, who has looked impressive since his arrival from Real Madrid and the speed machine will be hoping to nail down that position.

Sessegnon’s development in Germany is certainly going to be interesting to follow this year, but it could be bad news for Spurs’ other left-back Ben Davies and it looks like the 27-year-old may need to make way eventually or use his versatility to compete for a centre-back spot.
