Tottenham are prepared to finally land Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik after talks begin with the player’s entourage over a contract worth £95,000-a-week, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via Tutto Napoli.

Spurs are desperate to land themselves a striker but they could wait until next summer before finally landing the Napoli star.

Milik is out of contract next summer and Spurs are keen to tie the 26-year-old to a pre-contract agreement, taking him to North London at the end of the current campaign.

Napoli have recently lowered Milik’s valuation from £37 million to £23 million, although that is unlikely to tempt Tottenham into signing him before his contract expires.

The man with 51 caps for Poland was in decent form during 2019/20, scoring 14 goals for Napoli and spearheading the club’s attack.

It seems very unlikely that he will be signing a contract extension and Napoli would dearly like to see him prior to his contract expiring in order to recoup some funds for a star player.

Tottenham don’t seem keen at this stage to do that, although they could be left with a decision to make if another interested party do flex their financial clout and try and sign him before next year.

Last season Spurs really struggled in the absence of Kane who spent some of the season out injured. Boss Jose Mourinho will want to ensure his team is well-stocked going forward and might feel he can manage with his current options until next summer.

TBR View – Milik ideal understudy for Kane

The Poland international would be quite the addition for Tottenham and it’s important they do whatever they can to land him.

If they can hold off any competition for his signature and wait until the summer of 2021 then it would represent really savvy business on Tottenham’s part.

If other clubs do show their hand then Spurs might be wise to show Napoli the money and do the deal.

Milik holds play up with ease and is the sort of striker who comes alive in the penalty area, making him an ideal player to compete with Kane for a place.

If Mourinho wants the Polish performer, Spurs have to do whatever they can to get him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
