Italian newspaper Tuttosport have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of numerous European heavyweights looking to sign Torino captain Andrea Belotti – a player that Joe Hart played alongside during a loan spell at the Italian club.
Belotti, 27, is regarded as one of Europe’s best strikers that is yet to move to one of the continent’s biggest clubs – boasting an enormous 104 goals for Torino in just 220 games. To have a strike rate of almost 1-in-2 for a mid-table side is impressive.
The 32-time Italy international is out of contract in the summer of 2022, meaning the upcoming window presents the last opportunity for Torino to cash in on the striker. Football Italia have reported that he might only cost £30million.
The latest report says Tottenham are interested, but face competition from Chelsea, Manchester United. Four Serie A sides in Milan, Napoli, Fiorentina and Roma are keen – as are Lyon and Atletico. Hart played alongside him in 2016-17.
“Andrea is similar to all the great strikers, English and not. It’s hard to compare him because he’s special. He’s Belotti, that’s it. He has an instinct for goals, he’s a team player: he’s always focused on his team,” Hart told, as per Gianluca Di Marzio’s website.
TBR’s view – Belotti is a top, top striker
But Belotti will want to start. At £30million, he is an absolute bargain. He is a leader, a fully-fledged international and a proven goalscorer. He is still young and yet to reach his prime in terms of age. Like Harry Kane, he has absolutely everything.
The chances are, though, that Belotti is not going to consider a move to Tottenham unless Kane leaves – though that looks more and more likely. If Kane does go, Spurs could do a lot worse than replacing him with Belotti this summer.
