Tottenham Hotspur appear primed to win the race for Eljif Elmas, according to reports in Turkey. Turkish media outlet Super Haber reports that Tottenham are set to complete the signing of Fenerbahce starlet Elmas.

Spurs have reportedly made a bid of €20m for the teenage midfielder, which roughly equates to around £17.2m, which Fenerbahce might be forced to accept due to Financial Fair Play regulations.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Tottenham are joined by Manchester City, Leicester City, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and others in this race.

But it seems that Mauricio Pochettino’s men have stolen a march on their competitors by firming up their interest with a bid.

Elmas is set to feature in an Istanbul derby clash this weekend with bitter rivals Galatasaray and scouts will watch eagerly.

The Macedonia international has played 34 matches for Fenerbahce this season and has been a standout performer despite the club’s struggles in the Turkish Super Lig.

But Fenerbahce look set to lose their prize starlet with Tottenham in pole position to get this deal over the line.

Elmas could be seen as the long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele in central midfield, while Victor Wanyama’s future at Spurs is also in doubt.

Beating these top European clubs to the signing of Elmas would be a signal of intent for Tottenham ahead of a busy summer.
