Report: Tottenham on pole position to sign Sofyan Amrabat
Tottenham Hotspur are on pole position to sign Sofyan Amrabat despite Fiorentina having no intention to sell the midfielder in the January transfer window, according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.
Amrabat’s stock has risen considerably over the last few months. He has been absolutely superb for Fiorentina this season. Meanwhile, he was ‘outstanding‘ at the World Cup as Morocco made the semi-finals in Qatar.
And the chase for his signature has ramped right up. Tottenham and Liverpool have been heavily linked with the 26-year-old in recent times.

Meanwhile, recent reports from Tuttomercatoweb suggested that Paris Saint-Germain want Amrabat. Sevilla and Atletico Madrid are also admirers of the midfielder.
But Gazzetta dello Sport reports that it is Spurs and Liverpool who are on pole position to sign Amrabat. Fiorentina, understandably, do not want to sell him however, with the report suggesting that he could cost around £40 million.
Tottenham do not need to prioritise a new central midfielder in the window. They have real depth in the middle of the park, with Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp providing cover for the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur.
A new forward, a right wing-back, and maybe another centre-back may be higher up the list of priorities.
I Viola are not going to let Amrabat leave on the cheap, particularly midway through the season. So any side looking to sign him is presumably going to have go very close to his £40 million asking price.
That may well eat up a large chunk of Tottenham’s budget for the upcoming window. And given the depth they already have in the middle of the park, perhaps a move will be beyond Spurs this time around.
