Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid’s Angel Correa.
According to Sky Sports, the Spanish club are nearing a move for Kieran Trippier, with a medical to take place on Wednesday.
As part of the negotiations, the north London giants have supposedly been given the opportunity to sign Argentina international Correa, who has no future at the Wanda Metropolitano.
AS claim Tottenham like the player, and that he could end up being involved in the Trippier deal.
Correa has been with Atleti since 2014 after transferring from San Lorenzo in his homeland.
He has made 188 first-team appearances for the club and scored 30 goals and made 28 assists.
Correa is a very versatile forward, but it’s difficult to see him getting into the Spurs team ahead of the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela.
Whether he could replace Trippier as a right wing-back is probably a bit of a stretch, although if there’s one coach who could give that a chance it’s Mauricio Pochettino.
Perhaps the only way for Spurs to have real need for Correa would be if Lamela was to leave.
A great player on his day, he arguably hasn’t lived up to his billing during his six years at the club. Whether Pochettino would want rid of his compatriot though is another matter.
