The Daily Star has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have been offered Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino this summer with the player looking to leave Antonio Conte’s side – but Arsenal and Everton are also keen.
Vecino, 28, has remained first choice for much of the Serie A campaign but it appears the 41-time Uruguay international is keen to try something new – and that could be in the form of a move to England.
The former Fiorentina midfielder has a contract until the summer of 2022 and is available to move at a fee of just £18million. Tottenham are keen, and the player’s agents have approached Spurs – offering them their client.
However, should Spurs look to sign Vecino, they would find competition from Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton and Mikel Arteta at north London rivals Arsenal. Jose Mourinho is said to be an admirer.
TBR’s view – Vecino is a cheap, but crucial purchase
Especially if Spurs choose not to spend big on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who could cost a fee in the region of £35million. Eric Dier is likely to move into defence, and Vecino would be the perfect replacement.
Spurs were initially linked with Vecino in January as part of a swap for Christian Eriksen, who has since struggled in Serie A. If Daniel Levy is willing to spend such a figure, signing Vecino is an absolute no-brainer.
