Report: Tottenham offer 'massive' £65,000-a-week player in swap for 23-year-old
Tottenham want to offer Davinson Sanchez to Atalanta in their quest to sign Cristian Romero, according to Football Italia.
The 23-year-old defender signed for the Serie A club in 2017. He is thought to be valued at £52 million by the Serie A outfit.
Now, he could be on the move, however, with Fabio Paratici keen to ensure the Tottenham squad is as strong as possible.
Romero is on a two-year loan from Juventus and can make that move permanent for just £13.75 million. They are, however, open to making a quick profit by selling him straight on.
Tottenham are firmly in the race. Manchester United and Barcelona are two other clubs monitoring the situation regarding Romero.
Now, Spurs are set to try and offer Sanchez in their deal for the Argentine defender.
The Colombia international arrived at Tottenham in 2017, costing £36 million. He has made 149 appearances for the club, scoring three goals.
Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to bolster his defensive ranks though. Sanchez, Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld all endured problematic moments last season.
Tottenham would be open to letting the £65,000-a-week player leave and they will now try and offer him to Atalanta.
In 2018, Mauricio Pochettino called Sanchez ‘massive’ for his performances. Of late, however, they have gone south and as a result, offloading him makes sense.
Romero to Tottenham: Paratici has to pull out the stops
The five-time Argentine defender would be a solid addition to the Spurs ranks ahead of next season.
At 23 he has bags of potential and last season starred for Atalanta in Serie A, playing 42 times.
Romero helped the team qualify for the Champions League for a third successive season and his calm and composed style caught the eye.
Tottenham have to do something to tighten up their defence. They were robbed of plenty of points last season; leaving Espirito Santo with work to do.
Romero would be an eye-catching addition and with that in mind, offering Sanchez in the deal makes perfect sense.
It’s time for Paratici to work his magic.
