Report: Tottenham now ready to battle for 23-year-old international after Arsenal make bid
Tottenham Hotspur have an advantage over Arsenal in the race to sign Houssem Aouar, Le 10 Sport suggests.
Arsenal v Spurs
Aouar has emerged as a target for both the North London clubs, as Lyon may be forced to sell for any offer over £17 million.
Arsenal have already made a bid, but it fell short of Lyon’s asking price.
However, Tottenham are said to have the ability to offer more.
For now Spurs are playing a waiting game, but the report suggests that Tottenham’s budget is bigger than Arsenal.
That means that they may be able to gazump the Gunners, in what looks like an encouraging update for Spurs fans.
Aouar actually had a tough season last term, but at the age of 22 he has a great deal of potential.
His arrival at Tottenham would give them another strong creative option, although it would leave questions being asked over how Spurs could fit all their attacking players in.
With Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli already at the club it is not entirely clear how Aouar would fit.
But signing a player of Aouar’s quality for such a cheap price may be an opportunity that Spurs simply can’t turn down.
