Report: Tottenham now one of the most likely clubs to sign Barcelona player this summer
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur now look like the most likely destinations for Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet, according to a report in AS Sport.
North London derby
Lenglet could be sacrificed by Barcelona this summer as they desperately look to raise funds.
And the report from Spain claims that Lenglet now ‘points towards’ Arsenal and Tottenham.
Whether the claim turns out to be correct remains to be seen, but it seems like a move to Spurs is more likely than a switch to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are already set to sign Ben White this summer for a significant fee, and it would be a surprise if Mikel Arteta’s side then went and purchased another central defender.
Arsenal do want to improve at the back, but the Gunners have other options in central defence, making a move for Lenglet look unlikely at this stage.
In search of options
Tottenham, on the other hand, do need options in defence and Lenglet is a new name to add to their list of potential targets.
Nuno could well use a five-man defence, meaning that two central defenders could be on his purchase list.
And Lenglet’s name may be an appealing option for Spurs, who are looking for an upgrade on the likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez this summer.
