Report: Tottenham now interested in signing the PL player who Harry Kane said was 'perfect' for him
Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring former star Christian Eriksen who has had an influential start to life at Brentford.
The Danish hero’s return to top form for the Bees under the stewardship of his compatriot Thomas Frank is already attracting attention from some of the top-flight’s biggest clubs.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Spurs and Manchester United are among the sides monitoring the attacking midfielder closely.
The 30-year-old scored in Brentford’s shock 4-1 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and the Bees have now won all three of the Premier League games that the former Inter Milan playmaker has started.
Eriksen signed a short-term deal until the end of the season at Brentford in January, determined to prove to himself, that he could still perform at the top after recovering from a cardiac arrest last summer, at the European Championships.
But such has been his sparkling and staggering swift return to the peak of his powers, interest in Brentford’s popular number 21 is only likely to intensify if Eriksen’s rich vein of form continues.
Being available on a free transfer could mean that Eriksen decides to embark on a new chapter following his brief spell at the Brentford Community Stadium.
He may have only been a Bees player for a short period, but his arrival has proven to be a huge catalyst which has helped the promoted side steer clear of the relegation places in their first season in the Premier League.
Prior to Eriksen’s first start for his new club, Frank’s side had lost seven of their last eight Premier League matches and looked to be itching closer to being dragged into a relegation scrap.
Antonio Conte, who signed the Danish midfielder for Inter Milan, is now in charge at Spurs, where Eriksen spent six and a half years and remains a big fan favourite.
Back in 2019 when he was playing alongside Eriksen at Spurs, Harry Kane said playing alongside the Danish sensation was “perfect”.
“I’ve played with him for five years now,” said Kane.
“We know the quality he has on the ball, his assists, his goals.
“He dictates the pace of the game and for me it’s perfect. I can make my little movements off that.”
During the international break, Eriksen marked his return to the Denmark fold with two goals in as many games.
It means that the midfield technician has three goals and one assist from his last four matches. It’s the type of form which isn’t going unnoticed.
