Report: Tottenham now interested in signing 'outstanding' wing-back who Arsenal were leading the race for

Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Norwich City defender Max Aarons ahead of the January transfer window.

90Min report Tottenham want to sign a new right wing-back and a backup striker when the winter market opens after the World Cup.

Spurs signed Matt Doherty at right wing-back for Jose Mourinho, Emerson Royal for Nuno Espirito Santo and Djed Spence for Antonio Conte in the summer.

Spence is expected to be loaned out when the market opens, with Royal and Doherty up for sale to the right bidder, so an overhaul may be on the cards in that area of the pitch.

Tottenham tracking Aarons

That is where Aarons comes in and he has been tracked by Spurs with designs on a potential mid-season raid on the Championship club.

Spurs of course plundered the Championship for Spence but he hasn’t had much gametime while Conte gets him adjusted to his demands.

Aaron has Premier League experience from Norwich’s spells in the top flight, and has been branded as ‘outstanding’ by ex-Canaries boss Daniel Farke.

Back in April, according to a report from The Sun, Arsenal were leading the race to sign Aarons this summer but a move did not materialise.

Ben White has stepped across to right-back and has played exceptionally well, earning him a place in England’s squad for the World Cup.

Aarons would still be a gamble for Conte, a manager who likes established, proven players, who have done it at the highest level and it remains to be seen what Tottenham do in January.
