Report: Tottenham not considering Nuno Santo future just yet

Nuno Santo is under no immediate pressure at Tottenham, despite the woeful North London derby defeat to Arsenal over the weekend.

That’s according to The Independent, who claim that while the ‘trajectory’ of the results is worrying for Spurs, there is currently no suggestion the club are considering his position as manager.

Santo only arrived in the summer after leaving Wolves. But, as The Independent points out, the Portuguese coach was by no means the first-choice for Daniel Levy.

Yesterday’s crushing defeat was a hard one for Santo and Levy to take. But that doesn’t mean that Tottenham are looking to sack Santo just yet. The club only got rid of Jose Mourinho late last season, so to move yet another coach on just two months in wouldn’t be ideal.

However, the same report here does make note of Spurs players already being unhappy. That is a worrying trend in itself, especially given this is how it started with Mourinho.

TBR’s View: Tottenham won’t sack Santo yet but he needs to change things

The style of play is worrying for Spurs. Even in August when they were winning games, it wasn’t like they were blowing teams away.

Instead, they’ve now taken to not scoring at all and conceding goals by the bucket load. Nine have flown in during the last three games. Put simply, that just cannot continue.

Tottenham will, as the report suggests, give Santo time before making any decision on him. But results, and performances, must change quickly.
