Report: Tottenham monitoring Darwin Nunez, but likely to miss out
Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Darwin Nunez following his outstanding season with Almeria, but Football London reports that the striker is looking set to complete a £25 million move elsewhere this summer.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a superb first campaign with the Spanish second division side. He scored 16 goals in 30 appearances for the club.
And it appears that he could be on the move this summer. The Sun recently reported that Southampton had made a £10 million bid for the youngster.
And Football London reports that Spurs are also admirers of the striker, who also made his international debut for Uruguay last year.
The report adds however, that Benfica are looking set to sign Nunez for £25 million. So it would be a surprise if he ended up joining Jose Mourinho’s ranks during this window.
TBR View: Nunez could have been an exciting signing for Spurs
Of course, Nunez’s admirers may not give up on the starlet while his future is undecided. But it would appear that a move to Tottenham is looking extremely unlikely as things stand.
The Football London report simply states that they have monitored Nunez. It is not clear how seriously they are tracking him or whether they have any plans to try and scupper Benfica’s hopes of landing him.
He is a player who appears to boast serious potential. His pace and work-rate are real strengths, and his record highlights how good he can be in front of goal.
It appears that Spurs are unlikely to be Nunez’s next club. But perhaps there will be plenty of Tottenham fans who wish that that was not the case.
