Sky Sports reports Tottenham Hotspur may now bid to sign Monaco winger Gelson Martins, who once admitted he’s so fast he sometimes can’t shoot properly.

Reports suggest that Tottenham are about to miss out on Leeds United winger Daniel James and it seems they are now looking at alternative options.

Spurs have been on the lookout for attacking reinforcements and they could now look at a surprise late move for Martins.

The 27-year-old completed a permanent move to Monaco from Atletico Madrid back in 2019 after a successful loan spell there.

Martins once admitted to Ligue 1’s official website that he’s so fast that it’s difficult for him to come to a stop and shoot.

He said: “I don’t work on my technical skills! It’s natural to me. I work on tactical aspects, but skill comes to me instinctively, it comes naturally in games.

“I do some bodybuilding work to keep fit, but my speed also comes naturally to me.

“Often it’s difficult to come to a stop, because I am going too fast to be able to stop. I’m also working on that, to help me be calmer when finishing.

“Sometimes I go too fast and I can’t finish as well as I would like.”

Spurs may bid to sign Martins

Tottenham are now considering their options after a deal for James looks unlikely, as stated in Sky Sports News’ Live transfer blog (1.23pm).

One of the names that has been discussed is Martins and the player is keen on a move to the Premier League.

Spurs transfer guru Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte met this morning to speak about possible deadline day targets.

And the Portugal international fits the profile of a player who can play on both sides of the pitch.

Martins was seen as a huge prospect after leaving Sporting Lisbon to join Atletico back in 2018.

But after an underwhelming season in La Liga, he then made the switch to Ligue 1.

It would certainly be a surprising move from Spurs but Martins could provide decent cover for Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski.
