Tottenham Hotspur are now ‘in talks’ to sign Southampton defender Jannik Vestergaard, The Times report.
Tottenham have made strengthening in central defence one of their top priorities and it seems that Vestergaard is a player who appeals.
Part of the reason for that may be due to the fact that the Danish international has just a year remaining on his contract with the Saints, which could leave him available on a cut price deal.
Vestergaard would bring with him Premier League experience and aerial quality.
But the bulk of Spurs fans may be hoping that he doesn’t have his best game in two days’ time, when Denmark take on England in the semi-final at Euro 2020.
Vestergaard has so far enjoyed a solid tournament, although he hasn’t started in every game.

Smart addition?
It is claimed that any deal would cost Spurs more than £18 million, but he still may be one of the cheaper central defensive options on their radar.
The giant defender, who was hailed as ‘outstanding’ by former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood (Sky), would certainly improve Tottenham’s aerial dominance at the back and he is a defender who has really grown into his role at Southampton now.
But there would be some question marks over whether Vestergaard has the quality to start regularly for a side chasing a top four spot, with his lack of pace of some concern.
