Report: Tottenham make enquiry to Benfica for Haris Seferovic

A report by Football London claims that Tottenham have made an enquiry to Benfica over the signing of striker Haris Seferovic.

Spurs are looking to add another striker to Jose Mourinho’s ranks to compete with Harry Kane for a place in the team.

Several strikers have been linked to Tottenham this summer.

Now Football London claims they have made an enquiry to the Portuguese giants over signing their talisman.

During 2019/20 the 28-year-old scored nine goals and registered five assists from his 45 appearances in all competitions.

He signed for Benfica from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2017 and has been a decent addition to the ranks, scoring 45 goals in 126 games.

Seferovic has proved a stalwart for the Switzerland national team, collecting 66 caps for his country.

Someone with a proven track record of scoring goals would be ideal as a capable understudy to Kane and Seferovic fits the bill.

Benfica have already crashed out of the Champions League at the qualifying stage so that incentive is off the table for Seferovic.

Tottenham have enjoyed an indifferent start to their 2020/21 campaign.

They were beaten 1-0 at home to Everton on the first day but roared back to beat Southampton 5-2 despite trailing in the contest early on.

Spurs tackle Shkendija of Macedonia in the Europa League tonight and Mourinho will hope for a comfortable evening.

TBR View – Would Seferovic be right fit for Tottenham?

The Swiss player has become accustomed to playing second fiddle in recent years at Benfica, so would he welcome playing the same role at Tottenham?

Given the upgrade in club size, he may well do but Tottenham have to question whether he’s right for them.

At 28, he’s at a nice age and in theory he should be at his peak for a striker.

Given that he’ll probably play in the cup competitions and occasionally in the league; the step up in standard shouldn’t be a problem.

Seferovic is a decent player and ultimately knows where the back of the net is.

If the numbers are right, Seferovic could prove a decent acquisition for Spurs.
